5 Natural Treatments for Postpartum Hemorrhoids

Does it hurt when you are sitting?

Postpartum hemorrhoids often feel worse due to constipation states, which can last up to 3-5 weeks.

However, you can cure most hemorrhoids with natural treatments like sitz baths, local compresses, ointments and herbal teas.

If your hemorrhoid problem is aggravated by constipation, discover what constipation home remedy is best suited for you.

#1 Fir Tree

Fir resin, fir buds and fir leaves ("needles") are a reliable help for hemorrhoids. Fir tree calms the inflammation and relieves the pain.

In my country (Romania), suppositories based on raw pine resin oily extract enjoy great success.

#2 Comfrey

Use Comfrey (Symphytum officinalis) infusion in compresses in the evening, before bedtime for hemorrhoid relief.

The external applications of Comfrey (compresses and sitz baths) reduce local temperature, attenuate pain and act as an anti-inflammatory.

Use the compresses and sitz baths as a decongestant in burns, swelling of the joints, hemorrhoids and varicose ulcers.

For an external hemorrhoid treatment, make a decoction from 4-5 tablespoons of crushed root in 1 cup of water.

#3 Stinging Nettle

Nettle (Urtica dioica) is not only great for fertility problems and menstrual cycle problems, but is also a natural treatment for postpartum hemorrhoids.

Make a concentrated infusion and use it in sitz baths and external compresses.

For internal use, drink a tea from 20 g / 0.71 oz leaves in a cup of boiling water.

For a natural treatment for bleeding hemorrhoid make an infusion from:

  • 20 g / 0.71 oz of Nettle leaves,
  • 20 g / 0.71 oz Yarrow flowers,
  • 60 g / 2.12 oz Buckthorn bark.

Take a tablespoon of this mixture and scald it with 2 cups of boiling water. Let it steep for 10 minutes and then strain. Drink 1 cup at bedtime.

This tea also helps in toning the stomach.

#4 Mallow

Mallow (Malva vulgaris) extract is a powerful astringent, emollient and moisturizer. It soothes and alleviates irritation and inflammation. Use it in sitz baths in case of hemorrhoids and anal fissures.

Another astringent herb, if you have it at hand, is Vines (Vitis vinifera). Use vine leaves externally in poultices.

#5 Propolis

Another postpartum hemorrhoids treatment safe for your baby is a Propolis based ointment. You will usually find it in combination with Spirulina, Marigold or Sea Buckthorn.

Due to its anti-inflammatory, analgesic and regenerative properties, Propolis is recommended even for bleeding hemorrhoids.

Even tough your baby demands your undivided attention, you have to take care of the hemorrhoids. If you don't treat them appropriately, they can get worse, and it will be even harder to get rid of them.
