Natural Post Nasal Drip Treatment

Do you have a recommendation for how to treat post-nasal drip from a lingering cold? My son (13) wakes a night choking on phlem.
Marius's Reply Hello Mary Lou,
First of all, if the cold didn't stop in a week, you should take your son to the physician.
Roxana, my daughter (3 years old), had a cold this winter and she was also choking at night because she couldn't breathe through the nose.
We used a nasal spray with saline solution to clean her nose and a decongestant recommended by our family physician.
We used the decongestant sparingly because it had side effects and could cause addiction.
You can try a saline solution nasal spray, or a neti pot with saline solution to clean your son's nose.
This is a video with instructions for neti pot use:

#1 To fluidify the mucus and to decongest the nasal airways, put 3-4 drops of
Eucalyptus oil in a cup of berries tea.
Prepare the infusion from 1 teaspoon of leaves to a cup of boiling water. Drink 2-3 cups of tea per day.
#2 Prepare a macerate from
Elecampane root (Inula Helenium), known for its antispasmodic and expectorant effects.
Put 1 teaspoon of powdered root in a cup of cold water and leave overnight (8-10 hours). Strain and drink the cup throughout the day.
Sweeten the macerate, because it has a bitter taste.
#3 You can combine Elecampane root powder, Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) root powder and Liquorice root powder to obtain a good pectoral tea.
Put 2 teaspoons from this mixture in a cup of cold water and leave overnight(8-10 hours). Strain and sweeten. Drink the cup throughout the day.
In case you can't find Elecampane root, look for Elecampane herbal teas or capsules.
I hope your son gets better quickly.
