Foods that are high in purines will increase your chances of suffering from a gout attack and should be replaced by foods that are low in purines where possible. The average adult diet has 600 to 1000 milligrams of purines daily. In case of severe gout, dietitians recommend people to reduce their purine intake to 100 to 150 milligrams a day. In general, we want purines in our diet.
