Cherries and Gout
Cherries and Gout. Find out why cherries are one of the best remedies for gout.
Cherries. From around May, when cherries begin to ripen, continuing with watermelons in the middle of summer and ending with grapes in the autumn, is a period when nature is very generous and my uncle George is feeling good. The key ingredient in cherries and cherry juice that helps gout is flavonoids. Cherries contain a sub class of flavonoids called anthocyanidins that can both block pain and reduce levels of uric acid. The same anthocyanidins are also used in the manufacture of aspirin, ibuprofen and other NSAIDs.
Grapes also contain multiple elements that are effective in controlling your pain. These elements include quercitin, water, potassium, vitamin C, and anthocyanins. Quercitin is a potent flavonoid. The great thing about flavonoids is that they contain anti-inflammatory properties. This is essential in giving you gout pain relief since the accumulation of uric acid crystals in the joints during an attack produces swelling. Watermelons contain potassium which neutralizes uric acid. They are also full of vitamic C which has been shown to lower uric acid levels. Third, they are full of water which will help your kidneys pass your excess uric acid crystals much easier. Pineapple is an exotic fruit rich in bromelain, an anti-inflammatory substance, stronger than many of the medicines in pharmacies. Regular eating of pineapple reduces and calms gout attacks. Moreover, it helps digestion and metabolism. Oranges and Lemons. Freshly squeezed, oranges and lemons are a natural medicine. Juice can be sweetened with honey and, because the juice is rich in vitamin C, this drink has antioxidant properties, depurative and inflammatory.
