"When one has tasted watermelon he knows what the angels eat" ~ Mark Twain

The perfect treat to cool your body in the summer is a slice of watermelon, or more :)

You can buy watermelons almost all year round, but the season for watermelon is right now. Even if watermelon is packed antioxidants, vitamins and amino acids, you won't need a prescription for it. Eat as much as you can. Just be careful, or you may explode.  I know I have. Every time I ate it :).

One thing I learned about food is that you need to combine the salty, sour, sweet and bitter tastes. In Israel and Egypt, people eat the sweet watermelon with salty feta cheese.  I have already eaten watermelon with goat cheese made by my mother-in-law a couple of times, and it's a delight. You've got to try it.

I didn't know up until a couple of years ago that watermelon is a rich natural source of lycopene, just like tomatoes. It's because of this carotenoid with antioxidant properties that they both have red color.

Also, watermelon contains citrulline, an amino acid which can be metabolized to arginine, a conditionally essential amino acid for humans. Ariginine is related to blood vessel relaxation and all sorts of medical conditions which improve with vasodilatation.

Beside these, watermelon also provides us with vitamins A, B, C and PP, magnesium, potassium and iron.

Hurry and get a watermelon from the market. "Winter is coming!" :)

How to make your own 5 minute natural homemade toothpaste

Many people say the fluoride in the toothpaste not only doesn't whiten the teeth, but is also toxic for the body. Even the label states that children should go to the doctor if they swallow it.

It is always a wise thing to not put toxic stuff in your mouth, don't you think?

Have you wished for a toothpaste which not only doesn't contain fluoride and other chemicals, but you could make yourself at home in 5 minutes?

Here is one of the most simple homemade toothpaste recipes. You can actually swallow it and not get intoxicated :), and is safe for children too.

* 6 teaspoons baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
* 1/2 oz (15 g) glycerin (use vegetable glycerin if you can)

* 5 drops of peppermint essential oil
* 5 drops of chamomile essential oil
* 2 drops of cinnamon essential oil
* 1 drop of tea tree essential oil

Mix the baking soda and the glycerin in a glass jar and stir until you obtain a paste.

Add the essential oils while you stir. The oils are optional, but you will find the peppermint oil very refreshing.

Baking soda neutralizes acids inside the mouth, helps to freshen breath and whitens teeth at the same time.

Peppermint oil is antiseptic and slight analgesic.

Cinnamon oil has anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties and is great for irritated or bleeding gums.

Tea tree oil is a good disinfectant. Use it only in small quantities. One drop is enough and is not recommended to children under 10 years old.

This recipe will take you 5 minutes to make. It's fun to make and safe at the same time.
